Rahul Gandhi resigns: He twitted on Wednesday that he has officially resigned as Congress Chief.
Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said he is no longer Congress chief. He posted a letter on twitter saying” It is an honour for me to serve the Congress Party, whose values & ideals have served as the lifeblood of our beautiful nation. I owe the country and my organisation a debt of tremendous gratitude and love. Jai Hind.” He said that the party’s working committee should meet immediately to decide on his successor.
Rahul Gandhi told reporters he has already resigned and the party’s Working Committee should make the appointment soon.
“I am no longer the Congress president. I have already resigned. The CWC should convene a meeting immediately and decide on the new Congress president,” he said when asked about the future course of the party.
Taking moral responsibility for the party’s defeat in Lok Sabha election, Rahul Gandhi resigned on May 25, at a CWC meeting. The CWC rejected his resignation and asked him to initiate the changes for the party’s better future. Congress leaders also appealed him to take back his resignation but he has been unrelenting. But he was firmed and asked them to find a new chief. (read here)
Some party workers are sitting on ‘dharna’ outside the party headquarters and asking him not to quit as the party chief. two days ago, the chief ministers of Congress rules states met him and tried to change is mind. Lalu Yadav and Stalin also asked Rahul Gandhi not to quit calling it “BJP Trap”.
But Rahul has been firmed on his decision to resign.
